At the Byron Family Medical Centre (BFMC) we have Open Access Booking. This means that the vast majority of patients are offered the opportunity to book their appointments on the day they call or by the next clinic day. That means addressing your concerns as they arise and preventing long wait times to see a doctor. Our goal is to have most requests for doctor's appointments fulfilled within a week if it is not urgent, and that day if it is urgent. We hope improving access will increase patient satisfaction and improve quality and efficiency. It is not meant to be a walk-in centre - appointments will still be needed to see all members of our health care team.
Dr. Scott McKay recently explained Open Access Booking to CTV news. Have a look and listen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. HOW DO I BOOK MY APPOINTMENT?
Most appointments will be booked the same day or within a few days of your call. For medication renewals we recommend calling approximately 1 week before your prescription finishes.
Q. WHAT ABOUT PRE-BOOKING APPOINTMENTS?
Prenatal appointments, well baby checks, couselling, and other appointments that need to occur at specific times will continue to be pre-booked appointments.
Q. WHAT ABOUT MY ANNUAL PHYSICAL?
Physical examinations will continue to be pre-booked. You may not need an annual physical if you have no health concerns. You may wish to discuss types of preventive care tests you need and how often you require a complete physical at a preventive care or routine appointment.
Q. WHAT ABOUT PRE-BOOKING THE LAST APPOINTMENT OF THE DAY?
We prefer to leave the last appointments of the day for more urgent problems, so you may not always be able to pre-book a late day appointment. We will have pre-booked appointments available both morning and afternoon.
Q. WHAT IF THE DOCTOR OF MY CHOICE IS AWAY OR HAS NO APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE THE DAY I CALL?
At BFMC we provide team based care. If your Doctor is away or unavailable one of our other team physicians will be happy to see you.
